This square connects the pedestrian zone on Ul. Jedności Robotniczej with the Municipal Library and the Collegium Polonicum Library. It lies within view of the city bridge linking Słubice and Frankfurt (Oder). In 2025, the square was redesigned as a place for meeting and relaxation as part of the “Common Ground” project, based on ideas contributed by residents of both cities. Key features include extensive flower and shrub plantings, renovated benches, and a graffiti mural on the wall of the Municipal Library, inspired by the poem “Psalm” by Polish Nobel laureate Wisława Szymborska (1923–2012). The first line of the poem appears in both Polish and German and was created during a youth workshop involving participants from both sides of the Oder. At the center of the square stands the sculpture “Integration I”, symbolizing the pursuit of understanding between Poles and Germans. It was created by artist Ewa Solima (b. 1976) and installed in 2002. A second sculpture, “Integration II”, was erected by the same artist in 2004 in Wrocław to mark Poland’s accession to the European Union. The “Common Ground” project was supported by the Robert Bosch Foundation, 2022-2025.
