This circular hiking route Birdwatching - in the Schlaubetal to Siehdichum and the Hammersee combines forest and lakeside trails with rewarding birdwatching opportunities around Lake Hammersee near Siehdichum. Start / End: Mixdorf Length / Duration: approx. 3.5 kilometers / approx. 2–3 hours Path condition: paved cycle/hiking path to Siehdichum, well-maintained forest trails beyond Route: By bike: Mixdorf – Kupferhammer – Forester’s Cemetery – Forsthaus Siehdichum – return or extended tour On foot: Forsthaus Siehdichum – Schlaube Bridge – western shore of Lake Hammersee – Schlaube Bridge – eastern shore – Forester’s Cemetery – Forsthaus Route description The tour begins ideally by bike from Mixdorf via Kupferhammer. A short stop at the bridge over the Schlaube offers chances to spot grey wagtails. The route continues south along the eastern side of the stream through varied woodland to Forsthaus Siehdichum. In spring, the forest is filled with birdsong: crested tits, goldcrests, treecreepers, and woodpeckers are common here. From the cemetery, the hike begins. The S2 trail leads to the Schlaube Bridge and along the western shore of Hammersee. Goosanders and kingfishers can be observed here, especially in winter. The route continues along the southern shore, crosses the Schlaube via a wooden bridge near a rest area, and follows the stream northward until it flows back into the lake. The final section along the eastern shore offers more views of waterbirds before returning to the starting point.
