Messeteich (fishing lake)

Messeteich (fishing lake)

The Messeteich in Frankfurt/Oder is located on the western edge of the city, which has a population of 60,000. One can safely describe this 1.2 hectare lake as a green oasis. The correct name of the former clay pit is Westkreuzteich, but due to its proximity to the trade fair grounds, the name Messesee-/Messeteich has become established here (“Messe” = trade fair). While the landscape to the north and east of the lake is urban in character, agricultural use of the fields and farmlands begins just beyond the lake. Due to its small size of about 150 by 100 metres, the Messesee lake is not necessarily designed for extensive fishing trips, but perch, pike, carp, tench and whitefish can be caught here. If you keep quiet, you can succeed right where you are by means of simple float fishing – both by day and at night. One special feature here: once a year trout are released into Messeteich. The banks slope steeply and are full of reeds and trees. In summer, the small lake may be covered with weeds and algae. This lake is managed by Fischerei Peter Schneider, and this is where fishing permits are available. Fish species: all whitefish, pike, carp, trout Size: 1.2 hectares, depth: 12 metres Tenant/operator: Fischerei Schneider, 15295 Brieskow – Finkenheerd, Telephone: + 49 33609 36833
